On Friday June 1, during the last teachers and staff (only) meeting of the year, we surprised Principal David Franson with the Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Humanitarian award. As you might imagine, it’s not easy to surprise the principal. But with the help of Dr. Tim Kilrea he managed to sneak us onto the agenda to the complete surprise of Dave.
As Brenda spoke about the award and the first winner, Dave began to realize that we were there to recognize him. By the time Brenda presented him the award he was in tears. The entire audience of 500+ teachers and staff rose to their feet to give a thunderous applause as we took pictures with Dave. This was a very rewarding day for the O’Laughlin’s, to be able to recognize someone who went well beyond their duties to help in very trying times.
We hope to publish Brenda’s speach soon which will detail the details of the awards and some of Dave’s actions to win (and inspire ) the award.
