We are thrilled to share the exciting highlights of our recent golf outing held by the KJO Memorial Foundation. The event took place on Monday, June 12th, and it was truly a day filled with camaraderie, friendly competition, and an outpouring of support.
Underneath filtered sunshine and with temperatures reaching the pleasant mid 70’s, our annual golf outing kicked off with a bang. We started with the Spilt-The-Putt contest, where contestants eagerly aimed for the hole in hopes of sharing the pot with the foundation. Although no one made the putt this year, you won’t want to miss the hilarious video of the attempts!
With nearly 120 golfers and 10 enthusiastic volunteers in attendance, our scramble format outing created an electric atmosphere. The day began with a shotgun start at noon, as players eagerly hit the fairways and greens, ready to embrace the challenge ahead.
Throughout the course, our golfers enjoyed a range of thrilling games and contests. From the exhilarating compressed air cannon on the first hole to the entertaining marshmallow long drive contest on the 10th hole, the excitement was palpable. The pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the hole-in-one contest sponsored by Rizza Auto Group on the picturesque 17th par 3 hole. Despite no one accomplishing an extraordinary feat this year, the new Ford Explorer SLT on the 17th tee displayed a touch of elegance that was truly remarkable.
As the sun began to set, we gathered for a delightful dinner, accompanied by the captivating performance of Joe Orozco and his remarkable sound system. Check out Joe Orozco Music on Facebook to see where he’s playing next, he is very active on the music scene in the south suburbs.
The winners of the Kelli Cup truly deserve to be celebrated for their incredible achievements. Pictured from left to right, Maeve McDougal, a 2023 Scholar recipient, Jason Hiser, foursome captain Rick Heinz, Rick is a KJO Memorial Foundation Board Member, and Gene Hiser a former member of the Chicago Cubs demonstrated exceptional teamwork and skill to achieve an impressive score of 14 under par.
One of the most touching moments of the day was when we introduced the new class of scholarship recipients. These remarkable individuals shared their inspiring stories and aspirations, embodying the spirit of Kelli Joy O’Laughlin.
